Founder & President Nick Boyd Sleeping Out, So Homeless Youth Don't Have To

November 7, 2016

Contributing to the community is a part of Fusion’s tradition and values as a member of the Business Community.

This year, on November 17, 2016, Nick Boyd, the Founder & President of Fusion Projects, will be Sleeping Out for Covenant House Vancouver as part of the Sleep Out Executive Edition.  This is the 1st time Nick will be spending the night sleeping outside with nothing but a piece of cardboard and a sleeping bag, which is often more than Vancouver’s homeless youth get to use.

Nick was inspired to support Covenant House because of a young lady named Brittany Martin, who now works at Fusion Projects.  Brittany has had the good fortune of capitalizing on their program, is doing great as a result of their program, and is an advocate for them to this day. Nick was also drawn to action in memory of his late brother, Joshua, who would have benefitted greatly from the programs offered by the Covenant House, had they been available to him back in the day.

Annually, Fusion works hard at giving back to our community, and, after learning more about Covenant House and their program, the team at Fusion decided to support Covenant House and set a 2016 goal to raise $35,000.  So far Fusion has raised over $14,000 and the Sleep Out initiative is another way (with your help) to reach this goal.

About Covenant House Vancouver:

Covenant House Vancouver provides food, shelter, clothing and counselling to the estimated 700 (believed to be an undercount but no other number is deemed more reliable) street youth living in Vancouver at any given time.  Most of the young people who are helped have fled abuse at home or have aged out of the foster care system. Last year, over 1,365 young people accessed the services of Covenant House Vancouver.

Some success statistics:

  • 96% of youth report that Covenant House has helped them
  • 83% of youth feel more confident about their future after staying at Covenant House

Crisis Program:

  • 528  youth stayed with Covenant House Vancouver
  • 49% left the shelter with housing
  • Average length of stay has increased in past five years (we know that a young person's success rate increases significantly with longer stays)

Covenant House Vancouver’s Sleep Out campaign goal is $1,000,000. Nick’s personal goal for this year’s Sleep Out Executive Edition is to raise $13,500, which represents the cost of running Covenant House Vancouver’s 54 bed crisis program for 24 hours.

Please help Nick do his small part to make sure the doors stay open for all those youth who need them.
